Ryan Talks To Players For Olympics

FBC News - 20/8/15: Vodadone Fiji 7’s coach Ben Ryan has been having talks with the current players in the Rugby world Cup camp for their availability for next year’s Rio Olympics. Ryan says there are some good players overseas but he will have to see if they get released from their clubs for two tournaments in the World Sevens Series. He adds he is pleased with the current squad as they impressed in the last season and preparations for the next season have already begun. “The Osea Kolinisau’s and Viliame Mata’s, they are in completely different body shape now. They are five week’s into some hard weight training. Because the World Series doesn’t start till December so we got time to do that.” Meanwhile, the New Zealand 7’s side has named Chief’s players Sonny Bill Williams and Liam Messam in their squad. The World Sevens Series begins in December. Mark Rika Owner / Admin Fiji 7's Fans Road To Rio and Beyond 7's Rugby Fan Shop

FIJI 7'S RUGBY TEAM PROFILE

Fiji 7's Rugby Team:   The Fiji 7's Rugby side is currently one of the top 4 sevens teams in the world and has won the Hong Kong 7's many times. Since the Hong Kong 7's inception in 1976, Fiji has always sent a national team, playing against provincial teams from New Zealand and invitational teams made up of players from other parts of the world. During these early stages, Fiji used to dominate the 7's tournament in Hong Kong. The Fiji team last won the Hong Kong 7's during the IRB series in March 2013. The Fiji 7's team also participate in the 7's Rugby World Cup which they had won twice in 1997 and 2005 which not surprisingly had been held in Hong Kong. Hong Kong seems to be a happy hunting ground for the Fiji 7's team. The International Rugby Board (IRB) introduced the IRB sevens series in 2000 and since then, the Fiji 7's team have competed with other top ranking 7's teams in the world.   History: Waisale Serevi a very well known

A clear indication of this tough competition was the crowning of underdog USA during the 2015 London 7's. Come the 2016 Rio Olympics exactly 1 year from now, no team can be underestimated. Any of the top 8 teams could be winning the Gold medal. Over the next 4 years and beyond, Rugby 7's will be massive in terms of competition.
